This isn’t the first thing that’s needed fixing since I started this account. But, it did remind me that I wanted to write about these kinds of endeavors.

I realized this week that the floor in front of the kitchen sink was wet. I thought I must have spilled or splashed some water accidentally. By the 3rd time, it occurred to me that I should open the cabinet and check on things. 😅 Sure enough, everything was wet. 😩

One garbage disposal, a couple of hours, and a few YouTube videos later… all is well (and dry). 🥰

Swipe 👉🏼 to see a before and after of a small change with a big impact to my kitchen (but a minimal impact to my budget!).

This is a $220 fixture that I found for $30 on Facebook marketplace. 💰 Ideally, I’d have 3, evenly spread along the length of the bar area. For $30, though, it was worth seeing if this was a satisfying improvement in the meantime. I think it is! 🤩

💡Changing a fixture where there is an existing fixture is easy! It’s a matter of 3 wires, in this case, and 2 screws. I plan to write a blog post about how to change a simple light fixture like this one. For now, check my stories for more thoughts, pictures, and polls about what I should replace my fluorescent light with.

Your Monday reminder that people who disagree with you are not trash. 🤍

If you hold a viewpoint that you feel is correct, or important, the best way to share that is by listening. Listen to understand others’ perspectives and how they arrived at their conclusions. Listen to their lived experiences. It’ll broaden your perspective.

I promise you that by sharing raging opinions and inflammatory memes, calling those who disagree with you “stupid” or “idiots,” you will not win anyone over.

Today, I challenge you to have a conversation with someone you disagree with - and just listen. Ask questions with the intention to learn. They might feel inclined to ask questions back and give you an opportunity to share. They might not.

I posted about a few things in my new blog that make me feel more confident in my independence as it relates to my car. I know that I can quickly and easily solve a few common hindrances without unexpected expense or the stress of finding someone available to help me.

📝 I’m currently writing about a few things I have in my back pocket, so to speak, that have prevented a few bad days caused by common car troubles.

As a single woman (while I was married, too, if we are being honest), a mom, and generally as a human who drives a car... I eliminated a lot of stress by having the knowledge and confidence to solve a few common car problems independently.

Let’s be real, though. I did learn these pro tips from my dad. He might have even been the one to save the day by buying one of these items and bringing it to me when I was unable to start my car and stuck at home with my babies on Mother’s Day. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’ve been able to help myself many times since then. Without panic, without being late, without phoning a friend or paying for a tow service.

How do you do a thing when you feel like you simply can’t? It feels like a small thing and you think to yourself that it should be no trouble at all. Unfortunately, your brain is overwhelmed and not functioning at the moment.

I recently saw a Reddit conversation that happened last year. Someone with anxiety asked how to order a sandwich at Subway. The community jumped in with step-by-step info, zero jokes at the author’s expense, and tons of support. Does it get ANY kinder than that? 😍 Swipe 👉🏼 to see some screen shots.

That is the inspiration for my starting this account and the blog I’m building. Maybe you have anxiety and need non-judgmental help. Maybe you’re facing divorce and you need to know where to find support or how to create a simple budget for the first time. Maybe you’re a new homeowner and need to know how to perform some basic maintenance.

✨I have a million ideas I want to share and hope to share local resources as well, for anyone in the Madison/Huntsville area.

But mostly - I want you to know that YOU can do it. Whatever “it” is. 💞
